As a kid, Kirbi thrived dancing and singing onstage. When arthritis began to hold her back, she turned in her ballet slippers for a new kind of art. Her love for drawing and crafts led her to art school where she trained as an oil painter. She’s the illustrator of the New York Times bestselling novel, A Horse Named Sky as well as the picture book Summer of the Tree Army.
Kirbi visits classrooms, pre-K to university to talk about being an artist and making books. She is the former Co-Regional Illustrator Coordinator with the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators. She and her husband live in Milford, Michigan, where they practice sustainable gardening on their small homestead.
